Pitbull Dog is the name for a type of dog breed. Some dog breeds often considered pitbull dog are the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, American PitBull Terrier, American Bulldog and Bull Terrier. 

Most of these breeds were as fighting dogs create by breeding bull baiting dogs and terriers. After the use of dogs in such sports was banned, they were used for catcing cattle and wild hogs.  They were used to hunt and drive livestock and family companions.

The words pitbull dogs is used loosely to describe dogs that looked similar. But the "bully breed" makes it more difficult. Therefore mixed breed dogs are mostly labeled as pitbull dog.
